Field Maintenance Technician

Company Description:

RioTel provides engineering, project management, and software solutions to the telecommunications, oil and gas, and public safety industries. We are recruiting a position for one of our clients, a fast growing wireless carrier serving large enterprise customers in rural coverage areas. Job Description:

The Field Maintenance Technician will support a defined wireless coverage area for the carrier to include both customer and tower sites in South Texas. They will report to the South Texas Field Manager. The Field Maintenance Technician can expect to perform the following duties:

  • Plan network installations by studying customer orders, plans, manuals, and technical specifications; ordering and gathering equipment, supplies, materials, and tools, assessing installation site; preparing an installation diagram.
  •  Establish data networks by running, pulling, terminating, and splicing cables; installing telecommunications equipment, routers, switches, multiplexors, cable trays, and alarm and fire-suppression systems; building ironwork and ladder racks; establishing connections; programming features; establishing connections and integrations; following industry standards; activating remote access tools; coordinating with contractors.
  • Verify service by testing circuits, equipment, and alarms; identifying, correcting, or escalating problems.
  • Document network by labeling and routing equipment and cables; recording configuration diagrams and specifications.
  • Maintain network by troubleshooting and repairing outages; testing network back-up procedures; updating documentation.
  • Maintain safe work environment by following codes, standards, and legal regulations.
  • Keep supplies ready by inventorying stock; placing orders; verifying receipt.
  • Maintain customer rapport by listening to and resolving concerns; answering questions.
  • Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading technical publications.
  • Enhance department and organization reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
  • Tower climbing is required for emergency outages, audits and maintenance and microwave alignments. Appropriate tower climbing safety training will be provided.

 

Skills/Qualifications:
Preferred 5+ years’ experience or combination of relevant technical education, training and/or experience in Telecommunications Systems Engineering, Telecommunications Technologies, Technical Understanding, Functional and Technical Skills, Audiovisual Maintenance, Microwave Technology and Cisco Router Technology. Position requires independence, attention to detail, verbal communication, and good documentation skills.

Location/Schedule/Benefits:
Local hires only, preferred location S-SW of San Antonio or NW of Corpus Christ, TX. Job will involve heavy day travel across a specific South Texas coverage region.
